fixed it: the pull-out turn had the sign backwards (cover was swinging into the case, not out to you), and staged the animation so pulling a book no longer sweeps its cover through the one next to it.

wasn't a code bug: an unrelated site's missing lockfile entry silently broke CI for 25 pushes, bestofcee's among them, and nobody redeployed it once fixed. found 7 other sites stuck the same way and unstuck them all.
